Resveratrol is a powerful naturally occurring antioxidant seen in the skin of red grapes and some other plants like the Japanese Knot Wood plant and peanuts. Recent studies have shown that Resveratrol is potent enough to stem the abnormal growth of cancer cells at the cellular level itself and is closely linked with the functions of mitochondria. Animal trials in mice have shown that Resveratrol can stop the energy supply to mitochondria thereby stopping the growth and proliferation of cancer. It is found to be effective in pancreatic cancer, skin cancer, gastric, prostate cancer, leukemia, colon and esophageal cancers. However, even very high doses of resveratrol might not help prevent cancer.

Researchers when treated cancer affected pancreatic cells with a high resveratrol dose of 50 mg/ml along with radiation therapy, they were able to control the tumors satisfactorily. The normal concentration of resveratrol in red wine is approximately 30mg/ml. The strongest anti-cancer action was seen in the case of cancer cells that came in direct contact with resveratrol including skin and gastro intestinal cancers.
