Resveratrol is a powerful naturally occurring antioxidant seen in the skin of red grapes and some other plants like the Japanese Knot Wood plant and peanuts. Recent studies have shown that Resveratrol is potent enough to stem the abnormal growth of cancer cells at the cellular level itself and is closely linked with the functions of mitochondria. Resveratrol kills the cancer cells by cutting off their energy source in mitochondria, which result in the gradual death of cells known as apoptosis, which is the key in resveratrol cancer treatment.  Experiments have also proved that Resveratrol help in making the cells more responsive to chemo therapy by inhibiting the protein function of the cancer cells, which may make chemotherapy less effective. Resveratrol also spins off the production of reactive oxygen species, which helps in the burning out of cancer cells. It is particularly effective against pancreatic cancer cells which are resistant to chemotherapy. Pancreas, pumps digestive juices to the small intestine and this powerful pumping mechanism often hinders the effects of chemotherapy.

Resveratrol breast cancer helps in stalling the progression of breast cancer at the initial stages itself.  Excess amount of Estrogen could be a major risk factor and when the natural mechanism of estrogen processing is disturbed, toxic compounds are formed in the body. These can react with the breast cell DNA to trigger the formation of cancer cells.

Resveratrol prostate cancer prevents the progression of cancer cells by cutting off the mitochondrial energy supply to the infected cells thereby bringing out apoptosis, which is also one of the natural body mechanisms to eliminate cancer cells. Thus resveratrol acts in a natural method unlike the many chemicals used in cancer therapy. Though more human trials would be required to know the exact scope of resveratrol in cancer therapy, it is evident that this natural antioxidant has the potency to curb cancer tumors very effectively.
